Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

How long is the recovery?

Swelling and bruising improve largely between 10 and 15 days, when most people return to their social life. Contact lenses resume at around 2 weeks and strenuous exercise after 3 to 4 weeks.

What care is needed afterwards?

Head elevated when sleeping, cold compresses, no sun for 3 months and sunscreen for 6 months. Stitches are removed between 3 and 14 days, depending on the eyelid.

How long does the result last?

The final result is seen between 3 months and a year, and it lasts many years. Aging continues, and some people need a second procedure over time.

What does it not correct?

It does not remove dark circles or crow’s feet. If the brow has dropped, it may also need to be lifted.

Does it improve vision?

If excess skin of the upper eyelid blocks part of the visual field, surgery can improve it.

What anesthesia is used?

It can be local or general, depending on the extent. Surgery takes between 1 and 3 hours.

What are the risks?

Dry eye, asymmetry, temporary difficulty closing the eye, changes in the position of the lower eyelid and hematoma. Vision loss is exceptionally rare. Smoking increases the risk of healing problems.

What should I mention in the consultation?

Thyroid, heart or clotting disorders, eye problems and medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatories, vitamin E or corticosteroids.

Is eyelid surgery right for me?

That can only be determined after reviewing your medical information, anatomy and goals during a consultation.

Is a price published on this page?

No. The final value is defined after the consultation because it depends on the indicated procedure, complexity, surgical time and each person’s needs.

What should I bring to the consultation?
